After reopening of the borders of British Overseas Territory in July government officials noticed a sharp increase in the unwillingness of visitors to leave and applications to extend the standard 90-day visa surged. The maximum visitors of Bermuda’s teleworking are from the East Coast of North America and the authorities realized a lot of these people were workers who had decided Bermuda to be perfect for their remote work.
As a result, Bermuda was quick to action and implemented a new residential certificate visa that allowed these digital nomads to stay in the territory for up to one year given they met requirements like having valid health insurance, proof of their ability to afford their stay, and of course the visa fee.
Remote Work Estonia
Estonia on the other hand had been looking into the possibility of economic advantages of remote working even before COVID-19 was a thing. Their research showed that a lot of people would love to work abroad if they could work remotely and the most commonly cited reasons were the lower cost of living and cultural experiences. The Digital Nomad Visa in Estonia became official on August 1st with requirements similar to Bermuda’s.

The Caribbean Island with its magnificent beaches and endless blue skies also announced their “Barbados Welcome Stamp” around July that allows people who can pay $2000, have health insurance, and can offer proof of future income to have a work visa for an entire year.
Georgia Remote Jobs
Another beautiful ex-Soviet republic country known for its snow-capped mountains, coastal charms, and epidemiological safety has been harnessing its image to attract foreign self-employed workers and freelancers with similar guidelines and requirements as mentioned above.
The future will continue to see more countries opening themselves up to remote workers, no doubt. However, if you don’t want to relocate very far away to an overseas country, LawnStarter did a comparison of 150 American states across multiple factors to determine which were best for remote work.
LawnStarter used the following to make their decision: earning potential and opportunity, working environment (median home square footage per average number of persons in a household, personal workspace, workplace safety, co-working spaces), connectivity and convenience (broadband coverage, internet speed, food delivery), and costs of (rent, living, housing, internet, utilities, and income tax).
Their insights show while it might be intuitive to think bigger cities would be more conducive to remote work, they do not rank well on the list because of the high costs of living. On the other hand, smaller cities don’t do well either because they do not perform well in metrics like co-working spaces, food delivery, and job opportunities.
